Umberto Zanetti (Livorno, Italy 1957) obtained his Master Degree in Civil Engineering at the Politecnico in Milan. He lives and works in Milan where in 1982 he opened his own studio - ZDA Zanetti Design Architettura - dedicated to architectural, interior and industrial design. Zanetti has designed and carried out various projects in Italy and abroad (U.S.A, France, Sweden, Belgium, Switzerland, Russia) including residential buildings, retail outlets and offices. His work in the area of industrial design includes a collection of furnishings designed for Unifor, Nero3, a research conducted with Plastic Design on reusing recycled plastic materials for the production of office accessories for “Riciclo” that was exhibited in “Remade in Italy” in Milan and Shanghai. Related to cultural projects, he curated, designed and coordinated exhibitions such as "MOCKBA XXI", "Gabriele Basilico - Moscow Vertical" and "Moscow, Factories of Utopia" at the MUAR Museum in Moscow, at the Triennale and at the Spazio Oberdan in Milan, and at the Cité de l'Architecture in Paris; "Gabriele Basilico - Bord de Mer"; at the Casa della Fotografia - Villa Pignatelli in Naples and recently "Gabriele Basilico, Le mie città" at Palazzo Reale in Milan. He also designed the graphics for some of these exhibitions. He has participated in numerous conferences on his works at the Politecnico, Domus Academy, Urban Center and the Triennale in Milan, at the UIA - XXIII World Congress of Architecture - in Turin where he discussed the development of the city of Moscow and contemporary Russian architecture, in Paris at the Citè de l’Architecture and IIC-Istituto Italiano di Cultura, at the IUAV in Venice, at the Association Maison Blanche in La Chaux de Fonds, at the Schusev State Museum of Architecture (MUAR) in Moscow, at the MAXXI Museum in Rome and at the FAC - Fabrica del Arte Cubano in Havana. He designed the new residential complex "UP TOWN" in the Cascina Merlata area of Milan, and and he currently also develops several prefabricated design projects implementing CLT in Italy, Switzerland, and Norway. Recent projects in St. Petersburg and Moscow were selected for the National Award In/Arch Italian Architects in the World 2014 and for the Gold Medal Italian Architecture of 2015 (finalist) The project "UP TOWN" won the competition "La Ceramica e il Progetto" 2019 - residential category, by Confindustria Ceramica. The latest publications regard special issues of the ‘Area’ magazine dedicated to the cities of Moscow, Havana, Buenos Aires and a Moscow contemporary architectural guide.
